Milestones and Design Process

Exciting new milestones have been achieved with our building expansion and renovation project! In September 2023, the Committee of the Whole approved our design, with an opinion of probable cost of $23.5 million. The design includes many forward-thinking features including, a geothermal HVAC, a microgrid system with solar panels and battery energy storage, a makerspace, a library of things collection, a dedicated teen space, a larger youth services programming room, an outdoor amphitheater programming space, a local history and interest collection, more study rooms, a larger Friends bookstore and café space, exposure to local art, and an atrium space which will bridge the expansion and existing library.

We are now going deeper into design development. This is the phase of the project where engineering, mechanical, structural, plumbing, and technological details are developed for future construction documents. This is also the phase when materials, furnishings, fixtures, and finishes are selected. For more details on the process, explore the "Full Design Meetings" notes and "Documents" sections of this page.

Helping us on this journey is the Sun Prairie Public Library Foundation and the generous individuals and organizations throughout the Sun Prairie Community that have contributed to the Capital Campaign. The Foundation has a fundraising goal of $3.5M and to date, they have raised and received pledges for $2.2 M. They are more than half way there!
